Recycling in Korea

Korea is extremely efficient with waste disposal. We have to purchase each trash bag for 500 won (about 45 cents). These trash bags are extremely small. The common trash bags in the U.S. that are white with the red cinches are more than twice as large. The bags themselves are recyclable. Everything must be separated including your waste that cannot be recycled, recyclable waste, and food waste. Food waste is used to turn into animal feed and the rest of the waste is recycled or reused. I am unsure about what waste cannot be recycled aside from hair or nail clippings. They recycle all types of plastic and foam.

In Seoul the cost to ride in the subway is around 1,500 won depending on the length of your trip. When you are finished with your trip, you deposit your card for a 500 won coin and the cards are reused. In other cities the cards are usually all over the tracks, cars, and sidewalks.

It is also rare to find any litter on the sidewalks or streets.
